Tardis cake

One of my nephew's had a birthday this week. He is currently mad on all things Dr Who as a lot of little boys are.  Yes, it was his idea for the Christmas Eve Tardis but more about that in a later post.

His party is today and a while ago he requested a Tardis themed Birthday cake. His cake is always a bit of a joint effort.  Unlike a lot of children his favourite cake is fruit cake!  I know!  So Grandma always bakes the cake when she is making her Christmas cake then passes it over to me in time to decorate it.  When hubby brought the cake home I had a bit of a dilemma - it was round! Oh no! Thinking caps on (useful piece of clothing those) and a scour of google images.

Finally, on Friday (nothing like last minute to spark something!), I decided that the Tardis would need to be separate from the round cake and opted for outer space as a backdrop rather than Earth.  Here is what I came up with:

The Tardis is Battenburg cake covered in icing. Perfect size.

What craft designs have you pulled out of the hat at the last minute? Leave me a message. I'm off to link this to Handmade Harbour for http://handmadeharbour.blogspot.co.uk/2013/12/handmade-monday-146.html before the party. See you there.
